A Mother’s Promise: Why I Refuse to Let Another Child Be Lost
There is no pain in this world like the silence that fills a home after losing a child.
It’s in the quiet mornings when you still reach out to check their forehead. It’s in the grocery aisle when you automatically reach for their favorite snack, only to remember that they aren't coming home.
When I lost my son, Raymond Antonio, a part of my soul stayed with him. Raymond was a teacher, a musician, and a volunteer—a gentle soul who dedicated his life to lifting up others. He had so much life left to live, so many songs left to play, and so many young minds left to inspire. But in a split second, street violence took him from us, leaving a void in my heart that will never, ever heal.
No parent should ever have to pick out a casket for their child. No mother should have to stare at an empty bedroom, holding a folded shirt to her face just to remember how her baby smelled.
Yet every single day across our neighborhoods, mothers are waking up to this exact nightmare. Children—our bright, innocent, beautiful children—are growing up in environments where safety isn't guaranteed. They are walking past open drug activity on their way to school, dodging tensions on their streets, and losing their futures before they even have a chance to begin.
I couldn't sit in my grief and do nothing. I knew I had to take every tear, every ounce of heartbreak, and turn it into a shield to protect other mothers' children. That is why I founded The Moonlight Foundation.
We created this foundation in Raymond's memory to build a wall of protection around our youth. We don't wait for tragedy to strike—we put trusted, street-level mediators directly on our blocks to de-escalate violence before weapons are drawn. We give young people safe havens, mentorship, and alternatives to the streets so they never feel that violence is their only option.
We are fighting with everything we have to make sure no other family feels the crushing weight of a loss like ours. But we cannot carry this shield alone.
When you choose to give to this cause, you aren't just supporting an organization. You become the reason a street-level mentor is standing on the corner when tensions rise. You become the reason a teenager steps into a safe youth space after school instead of onto a dangerous block. You become the peace of mind a mother feels when her children walk out the front door in the morning.
Your gift is a direct investment in a child’s safety, guidance, and future. It is the gift of another tomorrow for a young person who just needs someone to show them a better way.
If you have ever loved a child, if you have ever held them tight and wished you could protect them from every danger in this world, please stand with us today.
Help us honor the precious lives we’ve lost by protecting the ones we still have time to save. Block by block, together we protect.
